There have been some interesting theories on tachyons. Because they travel faster than the speed of light, they mathematically travel forward or backward in time as well. Anyone who remembers their high school physics can recall the equations that you use to calculate how far an object travels given it's speed and acceleration over a given period of time. Well, if you were to turn those equations around, you can see that time actually doesn't go forward, everthing else (the universe for lack of a better word) moves either forward or backward in relation to time. There was an interesting science fiction novel (the name of which I can't recall right now, sorry) that does a fairly good layman's explanation of these principles. The book also talks about some of the implications of this like sub-universes. Kinda neat...
