The deserts are dictated by the Hadley cells, they make the bands of deserts north and south of the equator. And then add ocean currents in the Pacific and Indian oceans and the circumpolar current. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadley_cell http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Ni%C3%B1o_Southern_Oscillation If Western US has crop failures AND Peru drowns THEN it rains in the north east of Australia, six months later that water has flowed down the river and finally reaches here. I care a lot what the weather is like in the Americas, India and Africa. Americas and Pacific tell how far south the rain falls, Indian Ocean how much. That is a massive generalisation. The USA gets hammered by extreme conditions from the north and cold causing tornado alley and other extremes and transients. We tend more towards slow and monotonous and long lasting crushing boredom. The really funny thing is it rains a lot, it is just mainly all around the continent and falls in the oceans. If you want to see how currents move and change this is very beautiful, and illustrates how complex weather is. Best in HD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87ObpUBm8BA thanks to US taxpayers for that bit of weather pron :-)
