I think they've recently come to a realisation that unbalanced servers
aren't going to balance up again while it currently remains very
unattractive to be on the smaller faction; the removal of faction tags
on worldbosses a while back is another sign of it. 

The economy on alliance side on my server is *terrible*, items are
either insane prices, not available, or don't sell no matter how low
youprice them; there is nothing in between. This will make it far far
better, while not greatly affecting Horde side, so a net positive.
Which may well reduce the numbers of Alliance players leaving the
server (or maybe even the game).
