I think it was IYM <nor...@whitehouse.gov> that wrote something

I think the start of it for me was actually when the dungeon finder
tool started working "properly" during WotLK and people could just
queue up for it to easily get into runs. That and how it made it so
you could then just keep running random heroics all day long without
any concern about being "locked" to any particular one. One of the
main reasons I'd leveled every possible tank/healer class to max level
was the idea that I'd be more likely to have a tank or healer I could
take to any particular heroic if a guildy needed one. While this was
a great thing for people who perhaps didn't have many friends that
played WoW, or could only play at times there were many others around,
it did remove a sliver of sociability from the game. And not that I
every tried it much, but when the LFR came along as well, it took
another bit of a sliver away. At least for me.

By itself, I probably would have kept playing, but when real life
meant I only had a 48 hour period of time per week I could play, and
during that period was also when I went out playing board games with a
bunch of friends I just lost the motivation to keep playing. It was
also during the start of MoP and solo questing wasn't really doing
much for me and running random instances over and over again with
strangers also wasn't that enticing an idea (not until I'd have a few
drinks at least). Before MoP I'd been getting into the Tol Barad
fight and that was pretty good since you'd tend to see fairly regular
names and you'd develop a bit of community feeling but with MoP and
everyone else getting to 90 before I did, it kinda fizzled out for me.

I keep reading here though and some of the things make me feel like
starting to play again, but until I can make it regularly rather than
just a couple of times a week, it doesn't seem worth the cost.
