I dunno - I'm always adjusting gems and reforging everytime I get a new piece of gear on my mage. For fun, I run her through the latest version of Rawr to see what and why it recommends the changes it recommends. I kind of dissect why the program is suggesting I use a reckless or an artful amatrine (sp? lol) in a particular spot, over the 40+ intellect gem lets say. 90-95% of the time I say "oh, ok - I see why it's suggesting that" and I may see the dps increase worth changing things for, or if I see it would cost me 500g for and increase in 20 dps, just because it's mathematically better. 80-90% of the time I go with the suggestions if I think it's worth it, and I'm usually happy with it - seems on the money most times. Did Halfus last night and final dps was around 24K, with an i-level of about 355 I think? I went arcane on that fight though for fun, and my dps drops during my conservation phase....But my initial burn phase for the first 30 seconds or so was 33,000 dps on the Slate dragon...enough for the tank to say "holy frikin crap!!", which was the highlight of my evening i have to say. :)
