I thought about it some more and even if your wow and email passwords are
the same, that doesn't necessarily mean the account thief gets instant
access to your email.

If your email is from a large provider like gmail or hotmail, you're likely
hosed because the account thief will have automated tools ready to go for
accessing email on those services.

But I would think most wow email addresses are from smaller providers,
which have a wide variety of access mechanisms.  The thief would have to
do most of these by hand, and I don't think that would be worth their
time.
