Installed Unreal Tournament in Linux, at last...

Note cross-post between Ubuntu and Unreal Tournament groups. I've been intending for some time to become a Linux user, since I discovered what a piece of crap Vista is, always because of DRM, which is not going to go away. But I'm still using Agent to read Usenet, and I haven't gotten around to installing Unreal Tournament. I figure if I at least start running UT under Linux, then I can finally feel I'm a true user of Linux, and I can honestly register as such. So I finally installed UT this weekend, and as it started to launch, it locked the system up. It's on my dad's system, and I'm not quite sure what version he's running. It's got both PipeWalker and NetWalker though, if that's any help. He's running and MSI motherboard with dual-core AMD processor; video is an ATI X1550 built by Diamond. I did notice that the install seemed to hang, but I was running from a command line, and there was some error about not default directory as the various files were being decompressed, or some such. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I tried running in WINE first, as I only had the Unreal Anthology at hand. It didn't work; don't remember exactly what happened.

If you are planning on going 100% *nix, I'd like to suggest Pan as a newsreader. It is fairly "Agent-like".. As to UT, the Loki binaries are still around http://www.lokigames.com/products/ut/updates.php3 . It isn't hard to install.

UT, UT2003 and UT2004 all install pretty easily, and always have, just as sixdarts says use the loki installer for UT, 2003 + 4 both have linux installers included. -- sid RLU 300284 Mandriva 2009.1 X86_64 2.6.29.1
