A few years back when people were starting to run UT on their laptops, there was an issue with speedstep and UT would run either hafl speed or double speed once the chip loaded and speed step kicked in. I have a similar problem, but a little bit different. I'm running an overclocked Quad and I have lowered my multiplier so as to run my buses wider. Windows does not understand a lower multi, so it reports the wrong clock speed. My 24/7 overclock is 8X400 for 3.2 Ghz. Windows assumes I am using the stock multi for 9X400 that would be 3.6 Ghz. Apparently, UT gets the clock speed from Windows and not from the chip. My UT Log says (here is the important part) Init: CPU Speed=3600.168976 MHz Init: CPU Page size=4096, Processors=4 Init: CPU Detected: PentiumPro-class processor (GenuineIntel) When in fact, I am running 400 mhz lower. - I've been having a few odd issues playing online and I'm more or less convinced it has to do with this. My chip is capable of 9X400 and then some, but I've never cared to push any of my rigs harder then necessary for 24/7 use. I'm not planning on running this system beyond 3.2 ghz day in day out. - I could run at 9X356 for 3.2ghz, but I like my buses wider. Was there a permanent fix for the laptops besides turning off speedstep? Is there a way to tell UT my clock speed manually rather than allowing Windows to lie to it?

I think this may work if you have an odd speed running had the same problem, which is fixed by adding the text -CPUSPEED=x where x is the speed of your CPU, in megahertz, to the end of your Unreal Tournament shortcut. For example, if your PC runs at 2GHz, then your shortcut should read: c:\unreal tournament\unrealtournament.exe -CPUSPEED=2000 if your CPU is a 2.8GHz model then it should be: c:\unreal tournament\unrealtournament.exe -CPUSPEED=2800 etc (1 GHz = 1000 MHz, so 1.6 GHz = 1600 MHz, and so on, you have to enter the value as MHz). Of course, your installation path might vary. There are other causes to UT running too fast (the PC's power saving settings and UT's own options, for example), but this is the most common, it's due to UT (which is an old program) misreading the speed of the CPU, so you have to tell it the correct speed yourself. This will probably cure your problem, but if not, then post up your problem and details at: http://forums.beyondunreal.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3 (the best UT forum I know of) and they'll no doubt be able to help you. >>From here http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/action/unrealtournament/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-42898881&pid=191945 Vis

I had pretty good luck running the UT process as windows98 too. It stops a lot of that.

Are there any other games ? I taught "UT" translated to "games" in some language, I don't know about. Noxx-Zema

As for Visene's suggestion for adding cpu speed to the shortcut... I thought it worked. Then my character would get stuck. I could shoot, but not move. It was sort of like when you run into someone who has spawned when the server has spawn protection. You get stuck. Or like some maps that have steps too high to run over or a corner in a wall that catches you. CPU Speed in the shortcut made the game run "right" but for the getting stuck part. I had better give a little info: This is an XP machine with a Q6600 clocked to 8X400 for 3.2 Ghz and has 2GB DDR2 @ 1066. I'm running an 8800GTS512. - Some of the problems feel like lag, but I have a crazy amount of bandwidth and the server I play the most gives me around a 54 F6 ping. When I added cpuspeed=3200, the game felt normal again like when I used to play from my older machines. In practice session, everything is fine. When I connected to a server, everything felt right for about a minute. Every time I was on a slope, I would get stuck but I could move normally on any flat surface. As far as I can tell, the servers I've been playing are running no UTDC, but might have some Pure 7 or 8 or whatever. There are no unusual mods that I know of.
