Hi evreyone ! I just installed Unreal Anthology, so UT2004. Finally tried it online, using my UT99 Nic, without my caln's tag. The funniest thing happened, two players were arguing wheter I should get a different Nic, or include my clan's tag. I should point out that we're a UT99 sniper clan only. I just stayed out of it, new world for me. I want to keep the same Nic, easier to find players I know, and enjoy playing. The clan dosen't support UT2004, so I won't use the tag. I'm just curious what you guy's have to say about this. Later Noxx-Zema

Lots of people drop their clan tag when they change gametypes. I would cordially invite the two players to kiss my ass.

It seems silly to advertise clan allegiance ingame for another game altogether.

Good point also Bruno. It always kinda irked me to see the {ASS} tagged guys
playing on a server and the admin getting after someone for saying "damn".
Um, hello?.....

Even more stupid is a server who kicks someone for saying "damn".
Humans should be able to say anything that the bots are already saying
in *their* smack-talk.

So very true. Do ya think "Die, bitch!" is disabled?
I wonder what part of human nature makes you want to control things to that
extent? Body parts flying everywhere, blood splattered on every surface,
homicidal behavior is both encouraged and rewarded and it's improper to say
"hell" or call someone a "dick"?

Beats me. I've played on a server that has that stupid "replace bad
words with other words" mod. I asked about it, and they said it was
to make it more "kid friendly". I told them they should read the
minimum age requirement on the UT box...
Bottom line answer though was just as you alluded to... "it's my
server and I'll implement any little control-freak rules I like".

I guess *maybe* if you were playing something like freeze tag I *might* see a reason to watch language, but even that's not kid friendly because you'll gib if you drop too far. I think the control freak part of it is probably closer than anything I've said. I watched an admin kick a player the other night for knocking her bender off a ramp. She was just huffy because she got owned in front of her buds and did it to get even. A couple of the players got on her for doing it so I lied and said I had demorec running and I was going to send it to the server owner. She left, ran down the player on another server and brought him back. It was just a silly thing to happen but control is paramount for some people.

Went back to the said server, only to be banned. With the box telling me my nic was offencive ! Only when I added my clan's tag could I log on again. The next day, went back, and no clan's tag was necessary. I guess the control issue is again prouven. Later, Noxx

Yesterday an admin got after a guy for saying "penis" so I asked why "Die bitch" is allowed but the proper name for anatomy is not? Everybody started the DB taunt until the admin either said for it to stop or he was going to shut the server down. I apologized for starting it but pointed out how silly it can be to go too far. You guys are so right. It's not a censorship issue, it's a control issue.

It may be the server admin is suffering from megalomania but it could also she/he is just trying a bit to hard. I think you did the right thing raising the issue of the double standard and in essence the build in taunts. Still in some way I find profanities which are typed in are stronger/worse due to being "created" and not just used as the build-in ones. Regardless in my view the real bad language is not things like the F* word but more when people user ugly words about minorities and so. Maybe it is because words like the F* one is not in my native tongue so I really know it more as something used in pop culture, like in the movie Die Hard, than a thing I might say if I hit my self trying to hit a nail with a hammer. Kind regards Bruno

I've had admins threaten that before, , they usually don't do it, at least not for long, else they lose their only means of power, and will surely return. Funny how admins are often making the game suck with powertrips like that, which makes people leave, , and their only recourse is to shut it down. It's like they don't want anyone around them that doesn't bow to their every whim. . . You gotta wonder what they're like in real life, if they're as lonely there as the yseem. . > I > apologized for starting it but pointed out how silly it can be to go too > far. > You guys are so right. One of his mates got in trouble at school for saying "shit" in front of the teacher last week. He asked my opinion and I pretty much mirrored your post with the exception of I used stubbing my toe instead of a hammer. I want my kids to understand that there is a HUGE difference between saying a word in response to a situation (imagine if uh-oh was profanity), and actually using a word to defame or disgrace someone.

Some fine caregiver might be thankful on your behalf. :) I actually keep a few around the house for the odd dirty, wet job like oil changes or plumbing work. I once bought a box of the disposable surgical drapes at a yard sale and those things were suh-weet! You could nearly change your oil into one of those and it would absorb it.
