I have an XP machine running on a 64 bit 3200+, 1GB 3200, and 6600GT 128MB. Do you think upgrading my RAM to 2GB and upgrading my GPU to something else that I could avoid replacing my entire motherboard just to upgrade my CPU to run UT 2k7? I could even deal with 8x6 resolution with medium graphics. Also, if it's possible to go this route what AGP-based GPU do you recommend I replace my 6600 GT with? I realize this is all speculation at this point, but I'd like to hear your opinion. Thanks.

Go for it though, because playing at a max res with 150 FPS just plain rocks.

The hardware recourses are so extensive, becouse you can drop eyecandy and then you can run with smaller resolution with older computer (hardware). And when we talk about on-line/ multigameing, then we talk lowering the eyecandy needs. Eyecandy is good only with singleplayer mode. (If you need good story - you can go to movie. I do not understand singleplayer games at all). I am little worried about if UT III needs DirectX 10 craphic card. If it needs it, then you have to install Windows Vista. And Vista (32-bit version) is with UT 2004 23 % slower than WinXP (32-bit). Not good at all.. But more I hope or wish that there comes in same day 64-bit exe, so that you can play UT III with Win XP 64-bit edition. It is fastest Windows today. > Also, if it's possible to go this route what AGP-based GPU do you > recommend I replace my 6600 GT with? Depends on your motherboard socket you can maybe upgrade your CPU to more effective. I have tryed myself AMD's X2 versions. They are not good for gaming. Maybe they are good for tomorrows or toyears games, but not todays. If your MB support like 4000+ CPU - buy it. They are test on sites that says that CPU is not the most important element on your PC when playing games. Other sites of course do theys benchmarks with overclocking settings, but those machines are only 1 % faster than without, LOL. Waste of money. Most important is GPU (graphic card) and after that the size of memory and it should be in dual channel mode; say you upgrade to 2 GB then you bought 1 GB + 1 GB dual channel kit. Of course your motherboard should support it. Latest best graphic card for AGP slot is nVidias 7800 GT. It is cheap and it is good. If you need more speed then you have to go motherboard with PCIe. New nVidias 8800 supports DirectX 10. I think it could be wise to wait nVidias next PCIe2 graphic card and maybe then Vista is running in same speed than WinXP. ;-)

I will probably be upgrading to Vista 32-bit as my school offers the Ultimate edition for ~$30USD - this will go into effect during the month of May. > Depends on your motherboard socket you can maybe upgrade your CPU to more > effective. If I wait until May will the price of the 7800 GT AGP be reduced due to a new line of GPUs on the market, or will the price increase since AGP is being phased out and the new PCI is cheaper to manufacture? Thanks.

There *may* be some graphical features that would only work under DX10, but I'll guarantee that nothing that would alter game play would be affected. And I say that only because it makes sense. At this point in time, no gaming house would dare release a game that required DX10/Vista because to do so would be disastrous to sales.
