Ok. 1st most common problem ruled out.

Other guesses (some wild)

Permissions of ut's system and/or cache are wrong.

Firewall blocking the wrong ports (wild, may be Pure uses a specific 
port to signify the Ok, which isn't getting through, but I don't 
know.)

You actually have a prohibited mutator, mod or actor installed.

Once you've deleted a bad pure from cache or system, restart UT.

I've got a vague idea that linux UT prefers to have pure installed as 
a local mod, rather than downloaded in the cache. 

If this doesn't help, the best place is to ask the authors;
