maxlives= line in 2k4 ini?

I noticed the maxlives= line in the ini under a couple of game types,
and wondered if it was a Last Man Standing mode.  I did a yahoo
search, and there were only a couple of references.  One said it was
LMS, the other said that if someone died this many times, no new
players can join the map.

Anybody know which it actually is.  I'm just playing offline on some
maps I've downloaded.  I think it would be kind of fun to play
domination, bombing run, or ctf with each player having only so many
lives.  Maybe even a no vehicle assault map.  (Bots are just too good
when they get in vehicles; I'd be the first player out in one of these
maps, even on novice level.)
