Oh yeah. Forgot to address the original post. :) There's nothing to be done about network latency in far-flung regions like Australia. If you have any 'try before you buy' ISP's in your area you could see who gives you the best connection to your favorite servers, but short of running your own server (which might not be a bad idea) you're only going to get decent ping to nearby servers.
