How does he do it?

This is original UT.

I was playing a one-on-one ctf map somebody had made against bot 1
Archon. The map was two smallish platforms, separated by a jump
length, a third platform with a jump pad below the gap. All this
suspended in a box so huge a fall with 199 health points, max armor,
and jump boots should kill you. And none of those powerups are
present.

I repeatedly shot Archon off the edge with the shock rifle. Somehow,
if I didn't see him land, he would actually survive, with 40 points of
health. That's how much health he would have if I shot him the shock
rifle and didn't knock him off the ledge. (I've got a key bound to
"cheatview".)

Course, I played another map where there's a mover, I guess, a
conveyer belt from blue base to red base. It was moving fast enough
that at run speed, I was standing still. The bots had no problem
crossing it. It was an ugly map anyway.
