OTOH, the compass idea would take care of that problem nicely, too... 

It's really a matter of how the mod should play - if you want
hide-and-seek, basically leave it as it is; if you want a frenzied
chicken hunt, make the player stand out more (like making him glow) or
(my favourite:) add a jailbreak-like compass.

That's approximately 1.974356 cents from me ;)
