I was bored and surfing the internet and found this comment:

"Synopsis	by Storn A. Cook

Deus Ex is a first-person shooter set in a dark, grim, near future.
Gameplay is similar to that of Thief, with stealth being at least as
important as racking up a high body count. There is no multi-player mode
in the game -- it's just you against the computer."

I like both games, but they don't even compare. Dues Ex is about
killing and Thief is about being sneaky.

I was ready to disagree with you, because I thought you were talking
about *Deus* Ex.

	I see now you're not.

	My bad.

	Seriously, tho'...

	Deus Ex "is about killing"?

Can't say for sure, of course, but I'm gonna guess a lot of folks will
disagree with that.

	/shrug/

Deus Ex's gameplay was pretty flexible, so I guess it depends on how
you played it.

I tried to do a stealthy style in Deus Ex, but it was difficult.
The game engine just wasn't really set up for it. Ie, at one
point a snuck up, planted a bomb near a door, then snuck
away. As soon as I set off the bomb, the security robot
who heard the blast made a beeline towards my hiding
place.

I did try to keep the body count low there, and there are
non-lethal alternatives. Ie, using the baton and tranq
darts and saving the sniper gun for robots or cameras
or "creatures". Though later on this got a bit impractical
in some situations.

But Deus Ex does get high marks for at least providing
alternatives to the "shoot it if it moves" game play that
was the norm when it came out. There were plenty of
alternative solutions to be had.
