Weird Thief2 trouble

Theif 2 still works well on my secondary HD and I can play it no trouble. 
However, when I run it on my primary HD the strangest thing happens: when 
ever I die or complete a mission the game crashes!
Does anyone know why? I mean surely the game is running on the same system 
but a new HD?
