"Can't you do a version that doesn't require the framework?" Those who actually give a reason for not wanting it say that its a "huge runtime library". As far as I'm concerned, Windows itself is a huge runtime library that every application requires to run. Even Thief requires DirectX (which is a runtime library itself) in addtion to Windows. Why do I use the Framework? I don't know C, or Java, or Ruby, or Python, or Assembly, or Perl. I know VB and I like VB for its ease of use. It allows me to do things rapidly like embedding a web browser and media player in the application that would take far much more time than I have otherwise. Windows Vista comes with the Framework integrated into it, so it's not even an issue of having to download and install it if you have Vista. It's only about 22MB if you do have to download it. So I can't really understand the reluctance about the .Net Framework. It works for me.
