If you didn't need a key to get into the cellar then it's the wrong cellar. The right one is the way to the cathedral and that's where the mission will end so make sure you get the statuette before you go looking for the right one. The cellar door has a scroll pinned to it with a knife. To find the statue, go back to the spot where you found the cellar key (in the Namez mansion) and look above your head.
