Guesses for the release date range from the end of this year to end of next year. I think that summer 2003 might be close, but it's only a guess. Currently IonStorm, who is producing the game (you have read correctly), has gone into media blackout, which means the development team cannot comment anything about the status of the game. This is a normal practice for game developers before they start on the real advertising campaign. There's a web site up at www.thief3.com, but it doesn't offer anything substancial yet, only links to the "legacy" games in Thief series. > It looks cool... Not much info has been released, and the few "screenshots" around are more like concept art. Good news is that Thief 3 production is helmed by Warren Spector, who knows what it takes to make a good game, and surely appreciates the Thief legacy. Thief 3 is developed on a modified Unreal engine (the new one, I suppose), and Havok provides a realistic physics engine for the game. Thief fans can hardly wait for its release, but I for one will gladly wait as long as it takes, so that the developers can do a top-notch job and don't have to rush the product to the market. While we wait, there're the wonderful Fan Missions out there for us to play, and new ones just keep being released. I don't mind waiting for Thief 3 with such brilliant FM's around, and I'm sure I won't stop playing them even after Thief 3 has been released. A new game doesn't make an older, but brilliant game obsolote! For a lively discussion on all things Thief, check out the great Through The Looking Glass (TTLG) forums. They are very active, and cover (among other things) Thief and the Fan Missions, ThieveryUT, Thief 3 development ideas etc. You'll find them over at www.ttlg.com/forums. Many regulars of this newsgroup are also active at TTLG. See you there! - Mika L
