I have reduced my startup programs to only SIX, including the system tray itself and two programs of my own. And I know exactly what the other three do. The problem is that when people install a new program the new software often just stuffs things in the startup without consulting or advising the user and so most users have loads of garbage cluttering up memory and drive. I can virtually guarantee that many of those items are completely unnecessary to your daily use of your computer but just waste resources. If you upgrade your system it will only build up again. Here's a tip that might make the job a bit easier. UnCheck the bottom THIRD of those listing, say 8 items, then reboot and try Thief. If no difference, Check them again and unCheck the middle third. If it has an effect then you have narrowed it down to only 8 and can then disable a third or half of THOSE. In any case, at least try disabling them all to start with. If that makes no difference then at least you know it is nothing to do with them. Remember though, to reCheck the stuff before continuing to use your computer or all sorts of things won't work! 8) -- Brian [email brian AT fidcal.com]
