The comp AI has much to be desired. I wanted to know if it is possible to create a custom AI that I can player on Battlenet with my buddies. If so, what do I need to do so that my friends and I can ally against the AI on BattleNet. Do they need a special file to run a custom AI? Do I need custom maps? Or can I create an "Improved AI" and use any old map.

Supposedly the scripts were editable, but even myself a programmer found them difficult to understand. Some of the script commands were overly simplistic like "Attack expansion", so obviously there was a deeper layer in there that was not visible. While it may be theoreticallly possible to hack the game, modify the AI and then play it. You should at least try using the different AIs in the custom UMS game such as the brood war [race] insane AI, with a preset mining expansion and some starting static defenses and heroes or even custom upgrades, unit stats etc. You can make it a little more difficult to defeat in this way, particularly. I have done this before - take an existing map like Hunters and then carving out a gigantic island for the computers with some static defenses guarding two bridges using only heroes. I had a map once where "reinforcements" would arrive - it was kinda fun. I'm sure you had considered this - so maybe it's not the answer you were looking for. There is certainly no standard or easy way to do it. -- LTP :)
