Nah, this is only a baby one.

There was a couple of OS religion threads back in 1989 - 1991 (mainly
Amiga vs PC vs Mac) that went on for more than a year. The Atari camp also
briefly chimed in for a couple of months, but they were hammered by
everyone because of their inferior platform.

news://news.soundblaster.com/creative.products.sound_blaster.live also has
some ridiculous threads that just don't seem to go away, but even those
are nothing when compared to the good old Amiga advocacy threads ;-)
Although, the SoundBlaster camp are much better at swearing and abusing
each other.

Oh, and while we are at it, if you are trying to keep the thread going,
you ought to add more groups when cross-posting and also follow up your
own posts with faked headers and troll :-)

The Pentium III id is great for software publishers that want a continuous
flow of income. One of my ex-employers said they will only support the
P-III in their latest release of their high end graphics software. Each
customer will have to enable the CPU id so that they can monitor how many
CPU's they run and charge a per CPU licence accordingly.

What they eventually want to do is make their customers pay for the
CPU-hours they use. The customer will pay each month depending on how many
CPUs they used, at what speed and for how long. Until now, they could not
do that reliably, but with the P-III they can just force their customers
to do it. The clients will still have to purchase their own hardware, but
the software is now pay per use.

They reckon that the continuous flow of money from the software has
potential to pay for ongoing development. Even if they decide to stop
development, many clients will still pay for years to come - easy money.
