	    REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION for uk.games.computer.quake3

Proposed by: Andrew Gillett (arga...@fatal-design.com)

Summary:
uk.games.computer.quake3 Discussion of Quake III: Arena in the UK

Rationale:
The aim of creating this group is to avoid the problems which
arose in uk.games.computer.quake during the months after Quake
	2 was released.

	From the uk.games.computer.quake2 RFD:
UK discussions relating to Quake2 are currently held
in uk.games.computer.quake, leading to confusion and
frustration when it is not clear which game (Quake or
Quake2) is being discussed as both games share similar
terminology. Newsgroups such as alt.games.quake2 avoid
this problem and are certainly very popular but lack
the UK focus of uk.games.computer.quake which is so
important when discussing local servers and sites
and developing a sense of community.	The creation of
		  uk.games.computer.quake2 would address these issues
and provide a forum for UK players to discuss the game
		  within an unambiguous context.

Quake III Arena is due to be released in April 1999, with a
test version to be available for download in March. It will be
much more online-orientated than the first two games, so there
is likely to be a large increase in the number of postings in
	Quake-related newsgroups.

By proposing the new group before the game is released, the group
will hopefully be up and running by the release date, resulting
in a much smoother transition than there was with Quake 2.

Charter:
uk.games.computer.quake3 will be for the discussion of all
aspects of Quake III: Arena within the UK.

Advertising and/or spamming will not be permitted.

Encoded binaries (e.g. pictures, word processor files, .zip
files etc), HTML, or similar non-plaintext postings will not
be permitted However PGP signatures, references to relevant
downloadable resources and web URLs are welcomed.

The newsgroup will not be moderated.

PROCEDURE:
This RFD will be discussed in uk.net.news.config for a minimum
of 10 days (until 25 February 1999.) This RFD is valid until 27
March 1999. If there is a large degree of support for the group
It will be fast-tracked otherwise a vote will be asked for.
