This place was my intro to usenet. Kept it for sentimental reasons I
guess. Now it just kinda brings me down. I came along after the AGQx
thing was in full swing and pornofinish and Lamerkatz and all that good
stuff. Oh yeah, and endless stupid flame wars between tomo and aj. It
was a fun place back then. But like I said now it just brings me down. I
kept wondering what will be the next big thing like that. Turns out
nothing ever matched this place in it's heyday. Thanks all you
originals for all the good times. Unsubscribing now.

I guess I'll see if I get any replies before I actually unsubscribe:)

I guess I'll reply then. :D
How's it been? Do you play quakelive? If so, let's rumble! Add me to your
friends list, my username is dksittingduck on there!
Usenet is not what it used to be, I think the online forums, and sites like
myspace, facebook, etc. have drained it of many users.
I use a client that hides groups without new messages, so I still have
groups like this one in my subscribed list, I just rarely ever see them.

I agree there.
I have my own forum, I'll admit. (If any of you g0m0s want to join me
there, just let me know! It's Diablo-centric but gamers of all stripes
are welcome!)

Oh, man!
Yeah, it's so quiet here now, makes me sad too. The Quake 2 and Quake 3
NGs used to be hopping.

I play QuakeLive occasionally - actually it's been forever since I've
logged in! - but feel free to add ImperiusDamian to your friends :D

Yeah, good times when the clan DK was playing a lot....
BTW, you can't ever leave the clan, you are DK for life! :)
I sent you a clan invite in QL if you want to tag up!

Hey, I came back via google. Duck, my quakelive name is Chico-Esquela,
so maybe I'm [dk]Chico or something?
Please send me something using that name that I could respond to you
as I am pretty lame
and can't seem to send a message in quakelive. Kinda like the way I
was pretty lame at the game
of q3 you know? When I'm in there I mostly look for instagib servers,
Is there a ffa you guys are on? Oh hey, Pop,
good to hear from you. And one of you guys got hold of me via my email
and told me about
pornofinish, thanks, I'll look you up. Hell I might as well
resubscribe if I'm going to talk this much.

I sent you a clan invite. You are already in my friends list, if I'm online
you'll see my name there. QL doesn't really have much of a messaging
systme, you can chat with your friends if they are online, just click the
name in the list.

Ta da, I resubscribed. Hey I played sittingduck in a match the other day
he invited me to join. Talk about lame...me I mean. I'm lucky if I get
half his score. Instagib and urban terror for me. If anyone is
interested my servers are Bite Me rails and Seattle TDM Urban Terror
team deathmatch.

Does anyone know of a better solution to usenet than eternal september?
It works fine, then deletes all posts older than 4 months. On the
upside, it's free but I don't like losing all the older posts.

Buy a $2, 2GB block from them. If you're only using it for text groups, it
should last you pretty much forever.
They have about 3 years worth of retention for text groups!

I'm still around. Bit taller than wide now and nicotine free for 15
months. :)
Hadn't played the Quakes at all for a few years. Never did the SP Q3 thing,
but did for Quake and Quake2. I was surprised that Win 7 Pro 64 bits not
only allowed these older games to be installed but is running them fine.
So I'm almost through Quake 2 for the first time in years. Ha!
The Last time I did play any Q2 at all was with Evil Bill! :D

http://www.openarena.ws/smfnews.php Go there, get 0.8.1, then get the

It's q3, but totally open source. Same weapons, Same movement, just
different models and textures.

Cool! There's also a san jose server that's pretty good, some nice custom

Looks good! I just DLed the current OpenArena build on my laptop and
played some practice maps in SP to try it out.

Next up I need to put it on my desktop so I can turn up the eye-candy. ;)

Yeah, it's pretty fun. Quake 3 with all open source stuff.

You can play q3 maps in it, no problem. Some mods even work. I have a few
things here that you might want to play with: http://quakefour.net/oa/
HULK.pk3 is tankjr painted green, and works in OA.
gpl-q3a2oa-textures.pk3 helps replace missing textures in q3 maps.
autoexec.cfg is my config, you may or may not find it helpful.

Ok, my link was messed up. So anyway I didn't really end up going away
as much as I thought I would.

I spent a weekend playing through Q2 SP on Win 7 Pro x64 and man did I ever
feel the nostalgia!

Haha nice!
Hey, I still LIVE the nostalgia: I'm still on XP. ;)

Well, Vista on the desktop, but the wife uses that for Photoshop so I'm
relegated to the laptop much of the time. :P

Wow, coolness. In the US, married and all that cool stuff. Congrats man!
:-D

I sorta drifted away from gaming so much and got into messing around with 3D
stuff and even heavier into 2D graphics/art. Poser, Vue, Modo, ZBrush and
supporting all that with Photoshop CS4 Extended and Paint Shop Pro X.
What got me into this mess? Um, well Quake 3 and a little skinning on some
of the player models, actually! Ha! Started off 3D with MilkShape3D. It's
still the fastest modeler I own. But it IS kinda poly limited. Still fun
tho!
