Shit, where's Arqon? Where's supertech? Where's everybody who it's been so
long I can't remember their names. Where's aj and tomo? Why do I remember
them? Geribaldi, the pf dudes, red, muktheknife. Ok, so I'm going back to
1999 and 2000 and 2001. This was a fun hoppin place. Sad to see it so dead.

I'm here (lurkin) - don't play online much anymore - supertech is into
some "evequest-like" game (I don't remember the name) - otherwise I've
forgotten everything I know and haven't pulled the newsgroup over in
eons :-)

Don't hit me! We got an Xbox360 for Christmas! I think I'm going to get
the equivalent controller (wireless) to use with Quake3/4 etc - having been
a keyboard-and-mouse guy since the beginning, this was a foreboding change,
but it'll save my keyboard and make for a hopefully more consistent game
interface for me. I've learnt to enjoy Lost Planet quite a bit, and it's in
HD!

I've been scanning the ng during this quiet period, and was about to pop up
and ask what everyone's playing right now?

Lego Star Wars II is a freakin' scream.

Still playing Q3 (badly) :o).

I don't play any other game. I'm usually to be found on:

jolt.co.uk - (01) Threewave 1.7 CTFS|31ms|195.149.21.141:27995

or on

XS4ALL - Quake3 Threewave CTFS|34ms|194.109.69.93:27960

I don't play that well myself but I love the activity anyway. I'll have to
pop in and say hi when the workmen leave...!

It would be interesting to find out just how many people are still playing
Q3. Someday hopefully someone will study the longevity of Quake and its
games engine as well...

I play quake 2 and quake 3 exclusively. Played around with Unreal Tournament
2003 and 2004 for a bit.

I was looking at Google Groups archive stats for agq3, in June of 2001 I
had 286 posts all by myself. That's inconceivable! That's like 10
posts a day.
There's been about that many posts total here in the last year.

The all time top posters are:
Wiz 4893
Supertech 4737
Joe Crouse 2408
sepulchral 2357
me 2201
jimbob 2133
pop 2124
a.j. (?????, so many posts killfiled) 1617
McGrandpa 1612

Of course that goes by number of posts per e-mail address and I know
lots of people rotated different munged addys. One in the top list is
no@spam.com which is kind of generic.
Still kind of interesting.

I don't do much gaming any more. I'm trying to get a PhD in
astrophysics right now, if ya can believe that. I heard you can order
them online. I spend the rest of my time compiling obscure statistics
as above.

There ain't never been nor never will be anything quite like the heydays
of agq3.

Amen. I'll miss those days. I didn't even think about how cool it was at the
time because it was just what was going on. I guess I figured it would just
always continue. Ah well, that's life perhaps, you don't know how good you
have it til it's gone.

I tried to come up with your name, cause I remember running into you a bit
later in the Unreal Tournament 2003 ng too. I just couldn't come up with the
word "Inglo" for some reason. And, am I correct, I seem to remember that you
pop, were you Supertech's dad? For some reason that's stuck in my head too.

Still playing Quake so I´ve no time to visit the newsgroup. LOL
Quake 3 is nearly gone I think, so this is the reason why nobody writes.

McG, that's kinda funny, a five post difference between yourself and aj.
Your posts related to the game and intelligent stuff as I recall. Aj was
blasting everyone, but mostly tomo. That was right about when I came in,
those clowns were going at it. I remember thinking this newsgroups is really
cool, and it has it's own comic relief section. They were just a normal part
of the landscape here in those days for me. These days I would have
killfiled both pretty quickly. I've grown a bit grouchier.

I'm with ya. I know what it is to be a Grumpy Old Man ;) LOL! You still
running Q3A?
I think it's about time for a rerun through all the Quakes. Got cable,
online should be a lot more fun than the old dialup daze with the DPJOD!

I've been *trying* to play Quake 4, but lately the damn thing's been
crashing every few minutes with a "C++ Runtime Error, Abnormal Program
Termination". Gods only know why, having no issues whatsoever with
Half-Life 2.

I missed that completely. I got Q2 in 1998 so I was playing, but knew
nothing of newsgroups, or usenet.

I've been on Usenet on and off since 1997, although I didn't discover
AGQ2 until early '99. <g>

There are still a couple people playing Q3! Here are a couple 3wave
servers in the US that are active every night.
{69.90.34.22:27960 | -]Rx[- Resurrected eXecutioners Public Server |
{64.34.161.45:27960 | [arch3r.com]
pF even has a public server up!
{207.180.25.189:27988 | p0rn0F1n1sh Public Server
You may or may not see people on the pF server, but we have one! :p
We tried Q4, Doom 3, Half Life 2, FEAR, Battlefield 2 and most of us
kept returning to Q3 just for the fun and stuff. Have a good one and
nice to see people are still around. :)

What do I need? Q3 1.32, Threewave 1.7... anything else?

Hey!

Just fired up this NG after a loong time.

I still play Q3 Arena every night.

216.224.117.120:27960 GoH West Server

72.51.60.107:27960 ATF Explosive Sausage Arena

Both are still busy. Unfortunately, anything closer to the West Coast
is dead.

I am in the process of upgrading this POS, never got around to playing
anything else online. I will have to consider changing to Q4 or
something. Someone said the latest patches have made it quite playable
and fun.

I disappeared not long after Q3 came out and I didn't like playing it. Q2
was the greatest IMO.

Amen!
I just discovered a couple od nice low-latency UK Q2 servers, so I've
been playing that a few times... vanilla FFA with stock DMx maps on one
and Instagib with custom maps on the other. Sweet stuff.
And my ping is in the 30s. ;)
