The only thing which seems odd is that I don't have a security tab when I
look at the properties of a temp folder.

Maybe you have some service running which isn't running on my system.

I enabled and started the most likely services.

I am sick of installshield not working.

Then there is still the possibility you just trolling.

Bye,
  Skybuck.

Flash media player 8 won't work on my windows xp 64 bit.

Neither Quake 4 Full.

Other applications and games install ok.

Except a few older dos games.

"Then there is still the possibility you just trolling." LOL!

I do run XP64, I never disabled any services on it, and made sure the OS was
patched up fully with Windows Update. I do wish that there were device
drivers to support all my kit though. Then I'd fire in 4GB of ram! 3d mark
06 gets higher results, and somehow I think that image quality is better.

Try typing this in ms-dos prompt:

tasklist /svc > list.txt

It will create a list of all services and programs running and store it in
list.txt.

Then open list.txt and post it in this thread, ok ?

That would be usefull

Here is an example:

(Some services are not running they are on manual... I started them sometime
ago to test and those didn't help, but I know some are necessary for
InstallShield at least... but maybe it needs more services)

Just turn everything on and see if it installs! I also spun up the windows
cd after install and added all the extra stuff like .NET framework. Doom 3
runs great, but the addon won't install! To sum up my opinion of XP64, it is
a faster OS, let down by driver support. Now I am back to running XP Pro.
Maybe when Vista arrives there may be more drivers?

Dump the Creative CDRom access, ctdetect and cthelper. Delete actual enries from registry or
disable in Services, they are unneeded and just a waste.

cancel out your daemon as well, that could be the problem, some games wont
install if they detect daemons as they are invariably used by thieving
pirates.

I installed this Quake 4 ISO without problems on Windows XP Pro.

So it's some kind of Windows XP PRO 64 issue.

Bye,
  Skybuck.

Quake 4 ISO? Are you trying to install an ISO, or the original game from
DVD? Have you bought the original game? Sorry to ask, but I cannot tolerate
software thieves! They cry about the price of games, but if you say a game
is worth, say 10 hrs of gameplay (thats a low estimate I know), and you buy
a premium title online for Ł24.99- thats Ł2.50 per hour not counting replay
or online options. If you were to go out on the piss for an evening you
would spend far more than Ł24.99! Of course, you could be an American
teenager, which by default means you are a dick

Of course you only get games that cheap on Amazon or eBay. If you haven't
got a credit card you have to go to GAME and pay 40 quid... Not that I'm
making excuses for piracy, but on the high street games are a lot more
expensive and it's all profit for the retailers.

The only newsgroup I have seen is Quake 3.

That would be totally off-topic as well :D

This is about InstallShield after all ;)

I started as many services as possible... still same error messages.

So much for that.

You've got a different problem than that perhaps. I installed Q4 on XP Pro
x64 the day it was released. No problems at all. Just ran it again to be
sure I really did that :)
Doom3 ROE wouldn't install under x64, I had to find a repackaged installer
on the web to get that one to install.

I'll tell you exactly what I did and then you will see that it's even more
strange:

1. I downloaded the iso.
2. I installed on a Pentium III 450 mhz with windows xp sp1 32 bit.
3. I transferred the iso to the AMD X2 3800+ windows xp 64 bit with patches
installed.
4. I start the cd and quake4 executables crashes.
5. I explore the cd and run setup and installshield refused to install with
an error message.
6. I transfer the iso back to my old pc, I have textpad run a comparision
however textpad might not be able to compare files larger than 31 bits
filesizes.
However textpad as far as I let it run reported no differences. I could
write my own comparision tool but why bother. I pretty sure the iso is the
same.
7. I did one last test and mounted the transferred iso on the old pentium
III etc etc etc. And low and behold Quake4 executable from the cd is just
running fine.
At least I think it loaded the Quake4 executable from the cd.

Strange really. Now I am doubting again I should probably write a
comparision tool just in case.

But it's safe to assume that the iso is 100% the same.

Which means something else is causing the trouble/problems.

I have been programming for 10 years. I have learned that it is completely
impossible for me at least to write a flawless computer program.

I can't even write 10 lines of code without making a stupid typo. I have
also learned that testing is invaluable and absolutely a necessity.

It's clear to me that they must have never tested it on Windows XP 64 bit.

Or something really weird is going on LOL ;)

Bye,
  Skybuck.

You lost me here. Why would you need to download an ISO if you own the
game. Just put the CD in the drive.

Surely you own the game.

All you had to do was transfer the folder from the Pentium III computer to
the 64 bit one. No install is necessary once you have the files.

I have used the same Q3 folder across almost a dozen windows installations.
I have done the same with Q4.

Thank god I don't because I am sure it wouldn't have worked.

Ofcourse I would have simply returned it to the store.

Unless you have one pretty fucked up store which refuses to take back bad
DVD's like Quake 4.

How about that for a scenerio to piss you off real good.

Store starts claiming you copied it for christ sakes.

Ofcourse I would have replied are you nuts these things have copy
protection.

They would ofcourse have said I found a way around that lol.

Then I would have thought and maybe said:

GO FUCK YOURSELF.

If that's so then why do these bloody DVD's still have a protection on them.

Then they would have said:

It's for the stupid people that don't know a way around it.

Now I would feel better and say:

Ok so I am a smart guy yeah.

And then they would say:

AHA !!!

See you admit you are a smart guy and you found a way around it.

ARGGGHHH

No I would go like... Yes I know a way around it but I DID NOT DO THAT.

Then they would go:

WE DONT BELIEVE YOU.

I could go on for ages.

Fortunately I AM A REALLY SMART GUY and simply prevent such a stupid dumb
motherfucking scenerio

BY COMMITTING PIRACYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

AND I AM PROUD OF IT TOOOO

NOW THEY CAN GO F"UCK T?HEMSELVESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH FOR MEEEEEEEEEEEEE LOL.

WHA WHA WHA FOR THEM LOL.

Bye,
  Skybuck ;) :)

P.S.: SHALL WE NOW GET BACK ON TOPIC LOL MY PIRATED QUAKE4 STILL NOT WORKING
(ON MY NEW PC) =D

It's a matter of principle now. I just want it to work. Otherwise
InstallShield software producer deservers a lawsuit. No matter if I own a
legal or illegal copy.

And I've kept the same Q2 install, pretty much, over five computers. ;)

Skybuck....you should give John Carmack a call. I'm sure he could help get your
warez running properly.

It never ceases to amaze how many people will complain about a game that they
pirated. You need to pay your $29.99 to have any right to piss and moan. At
least that's what a copy of Q4 is going for at Best Buy these days...you cheap
bastard.

Quake 4 now installs and works on Windows XP 64 bit.

I described the problem in another thread ;) (Google for it if you care)

Bye,
  Skybuck.
