No Tweaking Please, we're almost british.... :-)

Here's a true story about tweaking the q3config.cfg file. Some dude on the net told me to modify some settings, I vaguely remember them, but it
was something like:
/snaps 60
/rate 25000
/cg_(something) (something)
/com_maxfps 125
/cl_maxpackets 72

and so on ad nauseum...

Well, it worked fine for a couple of times...on a fast server. Much later, when I went back to play DM on some slower servers, I noticed some
real unpleasant lockups. Basically, the game would freeze; for 10 seconds there just wouldn't happen anything but an annoying 10x-repetition of
the current played sound-second; all animation would freeze.
I was baffled. No-one else seemed to know about these freezes. I almost thought of reinstalling Windows, who's the usual culprit, but I was
hesitant. I decided to examine the config file again.
Okay, so what does it say? ... "// generated by quake, do not modify "
Well, maybe the warning isn't exaggerated, I recognized. I reinstalled q3, PointRel 1.32, Punkbuster, right into the same directory, and the
result? Now it runs like a charm again. No lockups, especially not in multiplayer mode, anymore. Morale of the story? No tweaking please, we're
british. Hehe. Well, I did double some "mem" values, but that doesn't really count, I suppose.
All that tweaking does as much bad as over-tweaking windows registry settings. It can ruin your game. And most often, it does. Leave the settings
alone. That's the best advice I can give you, for "ultra-smooooooth" gameplay. End of story.

tweaking is what made quake 3 fun 6 years ago. It's not really
necessary now, messing around with those network settings probably
caused problems with punkbuster which led to the freeze-ups.
