Bloody excessive!

I really hate the fact that its sometimes impossible to find an active
server (with a decent ping) where I can play a normal damn game, yet there
is always an abundance excessive servers full of people. Excessive is so
fucking lame, its just full of BFG nobs bouncing around uncontrollably.

Yes - that bouncing around is addictive too - if you just come off an
excessive server onto a standard one - Woh........ jetlag!

My analogy, excessive is the equivalent of a Michael Bay film, flashy
effects, big explosions but little true skill on display, an empty
experiance. Standard DM is the equivalent of a Stanley Kubrick film, a
slower pace, much more thoughtful, populated with, relatively, intelligent
characters and far more substantial and satisfying.

Nah, just having a bit of fun with an uptight noob. You put up a big flashing
button, and I just had to push it.

you mean like... excessive is to OSP as Hungry Hippos is to Chess?

I couldnt care less about most mods out there except OSP, but it is so dead
on the server (public) these days it has almost driven me to play some UT.
The mod is now almost a complete conversion and the servers are packed. So
what it looks a little like CS, it's the Q3 engine and it's more action
orientated anyways.

Does anyone want a game of OSP btw? ;-)

I have an OSP server, and a buddy of mine has one as well. They are both
running 24/7 at commercial servers. Mine is in Seattle and the other is in
LA. It's hit and miss whether anyone will be on there or not, but there are
usually people playing in the evenings. (west coast time)

Last night there were some 1v1 matches at Shayders that were pretty intense.
Here's a demo I took of one of them.

with Mr. Pants Excessive, nobody worries about something trivial like
"Scores", hah! It's loads of fun. LOTS of folks will agree... otherwise,
there wouldn't be so many Excessive servers!

hmm never played excessive but it looks like CA but worse to me.
Not a fan of that kind of gameplay in quake 3. I enjoy the challenge of a
good game when (if ever) I find a roughly equal opponent. Even a tdm game
is good fun if there are no idiots and the teams are even, but since the
collapse of most of the clans and leagues in UK there are just public
servers for me and you either get owned to scare everyone off.

still freezetag is a laugh cos it's tactical. Im not a tactical player as
such and I hate CS (q3 is great because of the speed/aggressivemess/skill)
but FT is, probably like excessive, more active than osp servers sometimes.

Thanks for the info - i probably ping around 150 to those servers as im
middle england. Might turn up to spec a few though and see who turns up.

Just getting loads of CZM demos now tbh cos not a lot filter through to
the european/uk quake demo sites. Only the ones where he gets beat
usually.

Anyways thanks for demo. I'd post one I have but its not a binaries
group. I'll post it in alt.binaries.games.quake you should check it out.

Got them both, thanks.
D20 looks like a very good player, and works the maps really well. :)

rofl D20 is not a good player dude, he gets beat all the time but he plays
at my house and records his games :D
just probably his best 2 games recently and he beats me more times than I
beat him. But to be honest the computers we use leave a lot to be desired,
we need some good mice and mats. Oh and some skill :D

Glad you liked them though

"Excessive is so fucking lame, its just full of BFG nobs bouncing around
uncontrollably."

I see. Truth is you cannot play it - so you rubbish it. It's very fast and
furious and not atall easy... Quick reflexes and practice (soves
'uncontrollably' issue) are essential to success. Wall riding takes practice
and skill as do grenade/bfg travel. Stick with it and learn and you'll get a
fun fast game. Go over to www.excessive.net and follow the 'school' link.

Good luck
