I read an interesting idea on a web page recently, and it left me thinking. Are Clans the source of cheats? Do Clans exist to create and maintain undetectable Q3 cheats? Whats the word on this? -- M -------------------------------------- Blessed are the geek, for they shall inheret the Earth.

They hate them, and would never even consider using them.

Reading an interview with Tony Ray from EB and he says - "One time, an entire clan was kicked during a clan match at the same instant - they were all using a cheat that had come out a few days prior." It made sense to me that clans would be the people looking for, experimenting with, and implementing hacks... as they would have the most to lose/gain from them. In fact, if I thought I had a new clean as-yet-unknown hack for the game, a clan might be the best place to offload it, rather than personally appearing as a new dominant player out of the blue. Just thinking i guess - no stress. -- M

Just thinking i guess - no stress. Well FWIW, I lately entered a public UT2004 ASsault server and there ppl were openly discussing where to get bots and how to install them. When I made some dosed remarks about them being a bunch of A^&%le losers that better start to learn doing something by themselves they were clearly surprised at my position. And I was even more stunned when I saw that at least 4 of them used clan-tags, 3 of which were the same. I'm not exactly sure about my memory regarding the name of the clan, so I refrain from mentioning them, but I will keep a lookout. Ursa..

I even did a condump one time. http://groups.google.com/group/alt.games.quake3/search?group=alt.games.quake3&q=these%20ppl%20can%20blow%20me those bastards were helping each other set the aimbot up! I don't care anymore. I only play with a few friends these days, and we're all adults and we don't need our egos boosted by cheating.

There are a few servers running the latest anti-cheat that seems to do a pretty good job, but the whole idea of someone poking around my rig just because I want to play on their server just gives me the willies. I've been really learning mapping and thats been a lot of fun.

Some of the best players on this side of the globe have gone missing - the last time they were seen playing, they were getting their a**es kicked. Something tells me that PB might not be so bad after all... 8-) -- M

One guy was using wallhack or something like it on pro-tourney4. I lost 35-0 and even hid in a place 100% invisible and a rocket came whistling by my ear. When someone else joined the server I voted ZTN and because the spectator was watching the game the other guy couldnt cheat and I won 6-5. I said there is NO WAY that the same person was playing and he quit. That was with the latest PB patch on the server. He came back later with a different GUID and nickname and did the same on DM6 till I ALT+TAB+QUIT. q3 is dead anyway its not healthy to take the game so seriously you either cheat and hide it or get stressed with cheaters. unless its a league game then maybe fair enough.

I especially like the Haleys Hothouse Servers, running gamespeed over normal. Sometimes there are some great players there, playing teambased, not only ego fragshooters. My prob is, that i am located in Germany and have a ping of 130ms to these northamerican servers, so i hardly cant compete with these guys. But let them be on a server where i got a ping below 50, i frag the Hell out of them. Moinsen
