    	    	I havent played it myself

But I've watched a few demos of fox and cooller etc. battling it out.
It looks a very little bit better than q3 graphically. It dosent look as
smooth or fluid as q3. the enemy and player models look shitter than q3
ones do. they look harder to see and hit. the gun models are shitter than
q3 albiet better textures. the maps look ok. all in all, a total waste of 5
years of development when all you get is (maybe) a game as good as it's
predecessor. id should have done this --- not raven.
now someone else has to step up and make a q3 killer for the next
generation.
meantime, I just found SOLDAT ;)

Q4 sucks. MAYBE with a few years of tweaking and mod development (if people
can stand it long enough to bother) it will be OK.

I played it for a couple of weeks when it first came out, and went back to
Q3. I haven't played Q4 again since.

We have that. It's called "Quake 3".

The true Q3 killer is going to be Quake Wars ET. That is going to be
the true and actual shit we've been waiting for, doubt me not.

Alright some response to all this.... UT2007 may totally shock me. The
first UT was a good game in it's own right, but even quake 1 blew it out
of the window for fluidity, gameplay, balance ... everything. Quake 3
just pissed on it and laughed. UT2003 was very nice to look at and
probably the only contender to the throne in a long time. I liked it, but
compared to Q3 it's still no competition. Someone who I used to LAN with
called XEN religiously played UT2003 and was in a clan, loved the game
and thought he was the bee's knees. My friend Kris is great on games in
general, you name it (driving games, RTS, FPS) he is a skilled player. He
had hardly ever played UT2003 and he used to whoop XEN's ass all the
time. No one at the lan could even kill me in Q3. The level of
competition is what drives the game and why I play it.
So I hope UT2007 will shock me and be great but guess what - it WONT be
because it is for the XBOX 360. We will be lucky to have any game for the
PC which is a big title be a good competitive FPS now the 360 is here.
Everything will be cross coded for the next gen consoles AND the PC. I
think if anything will be good it will be a total suprise obscure game
that we won't expect.
Regarding Quake Wars. Being a long time fan, I just know know when I look
at this game it HAS IT!!!!! IT STINKS OF IT! but still I'm not getting my
hopes up. It's not the same style as Q3 (large open areas with large
battles) but that dosent matter because a) It's Quake b) it looks the
shit c) I repsect the designers and d) it looks the shit.
So hopefully we will all still be playing QWars in 2010.
If not there is always Q3. :))))

sorry for the long ramble

I agree that the Q series were always technically slicker than the
UT releases. The integration of network packets and player
refreshes is done perfectly and makes optimal use of the available
hardware, unlike UT which uses only part of the GPU, eg.

That said, and being a longtime Q fan, I have to admit that I have
been playing UT2004 now for over a year, and I find it tremendous
fun! In the end that is what counts for me (thats why I preemted
my short foray into BF2).

The UT2007 engine is a totally new one and I have the impression
that GPU-integration and hardware optimaization in general are
much higher on the agenda. Also, I still have the feeling that the
game is targeted mainly towards the PC, and a special edition for
the consoles will be available. I have my hopes high, nut thanks
for the headsup to QuakeWars; could be interesting too and maybe a
good 'second path' besides all the comercial rimram nowadays.
