Video card turns off in Q2

Hello all,

I thought I'd try picking the brains in here.

I bought Quake4 - no problem there, but since upgrading my videocard
firmware and DirectX to play Q4 I've been unable to play Q2.

I've put on a fresh installation of Q2 off the Q4 DVD, but when I start
it the screen immediately goes blank (but I can hear the ID splash
screen playing). Then my monitor powers off.

I can tell from the audio that I'm in the games menu screen, and once I
do the 'leave game' sequence of keys (esc, up, enter, y) the monitor
springs back into life - back in Windows.

My other games are ok - Q3, Q4, D3. So what's up with Q2 and the video card?

TIA

Maybe it's the refresh rate if you're using an NVidia card.

Try this, if you haven't locked the refresh rates yet:

Yeah, it's nVidia, so I'll give this a try. Thanks.
