I'm curious now. How do I/you/we go about creating a new group? doGG wrote: > alt.games.quake4 Will not be added. Not found at the > ISC or Google Usenet Groups. > > > from Verizon

Fundamentally, no matter what the hierarchy, a new group is "created" when
someone posts a special kind of message called a newgroup control message
that asks news server administrators everywhere to create the group locally
on their servers. Depending on which hierarchy the control message is for,
and on who sent the control message, and on how a particular server is
configured, the server may do one of the following:
* Create the group automatically
* Forward the request to the server administrator, who then decides
whether to create the group "by hand"
* Ignore the request completely

It's too transient a category. Before long we'd have alt.games.quake5, then alt.games.quake397.... ;) Instead, just move the discussion back to alt.games.quake, where we can talk about the latest episode in the series and there will be a few still playing the old episodes. One might follow the lead of the EA games and create alt.games.id.quake, if one expects the number of titles from Id to balloon.

Yep. Not that there's actually anything different about Q4 worth talking about. I know of a few that cost very little and are 100 times better than your current server. you could start here: http://freenews.maxbaud.net/newspage.html?posting=1 and also check out alt.free.newsservers, but be warned it's a troll's den.
