i know this is not new, but i noticed alot of game host telling to not spam... if they dont like ex: grenades, instead of weining like hell, kill/kick the player for no reasonand having to start all over again in the scoring ranks, and telling ppl to not use grenades, why dont instead make a game and disable this weapon. i dont see the big deal or any prob of using grenades, unless there is something im not aware of that it can in some way create probs in a game wich i dont see anyway it can. some ppl only use rail, some just machine gun. so whats the deal about grenades. sometimes i host a game and i dont care players using any kind of weapons as much as they want to.

Grenades are one of my favorite weapons in Q3 - of course I think it is a good idea to be proficient in all the weapons, and not just have a couple of fav ones that you use all the time. This way there is an added element of 'fate' as you use whatever weapon appears in front of you. I mean - its a GAME for goodness sake.. 8-) -- M Blessed are the geek, for they shall inherit the Earth.

It's like this: some people have gotten really good with the rail gun. They like to be able to walk into a room and just blast everyone away with it. Additionally, in many cases these people are using aimbots. When defending an objective, it is the job of the defender to prevent the attacker from achieving his goals. One of the ways that this is done in the real world is by denying the enemy a particular avenue of approach. This is often accomplished by specifying a field of fire for a support weapon like a SAW or M-60. In essence, the defender looks at the terrain and says, "I think the enemy will come from this direction" and so tells his support weapon gunner, "when I give the word, you fire in this direction." Now, when the attackers come, even if it's in the dead of night, even if you can't see them, you can tell the gunner to fire and you're sure to hurt the enemy. On subsequent attacks, they'll think twice about coming the same way. The attacker has been denied an avenue of approach. There's nothing sneaky or underhanded about this. It's not "lame." It's not cheating. It is a valid tactic that people have been using for a very long time. Unfortunately, it interferes with the ability of people to walk into a room and start blasting people with the rail gun. It comes down to arrogance and a sense of entitlement. Look, I have this aimbot. I feel entitled to walk into this room and use my aimbot to kill you. By placing a grenade in the doorway of this room, you impede my progress, and that pisses me off. Rather than cope with this by either dodging your grenade or entering from another door, the easy thing for me to do is just kick you off my server. I would rather play with people who, like me, just want to walk into a room and blast away with the railgun. That's the way these server admins think. It seems very juvenile to me. You would, very rightly, be labeled a cry baby if you put up a server with a "no railgun" rule. Well, I feel the same way about people with "only railgun" rules. They're just little crybabies. I was recently accused of spamming and kicked from a server. Here's what I did wrong: it was threewave ctfs mode on q3wcp17, divided crossings. My team was on defense and I was the only person left alive. The enemy flag carrier was the last person left on his team. He had just taken the flag and was in front of me. On such a small map, there's really no way that I could have caught up to him. But I nailed him with a rocket and that pushed him up into the little nook by the lower left flag room exit. I fired another rocket at the floor by the exit, and another, and another. He tried to get out but he caught one of the rockets and died. And then I was kicked for spamming. In their eyes, what I should have done is to stop firing rockets and just let him go. He would have stepped out and probably railed me, because he probably had an aimbot, I don't use one. At any rate, there's little chance that I could have railed him. And then he would be gone and there's no way I could have caught him. That's what the crybabies think I should have done. That's typical of the way they think.

Additionally, in many cases these people are using aimbots. I just love it when people scream BOT! It means they are getting their asses kicked and can't stand it.

Actually, if you can be bothered to take a look at this thread: http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.games.quake3/browse_thread/thread/cca88601718c780b/3f3cce691c918bc2 You'll see that they *admitted* they were cheating. I'm not "screaming BOT" I'm just repeating what they said. Also, in spite of the fact that they were cheating, I ended up with higher dmg/time than they had. What do you think of that?

I think the ratio of bot users to bot accusers is about 1:200
