put it in baseq3 also make sure the file is really name autoexec.cfg and not autoexec.cfg.txt this is a common mistake made by people that have the option to hide known file types checked in the folder options panel an easy way around this would be to get your settings the way you want them then type /writeconfig autoexec.cfg in the console method wrote: > any way to fix this? > I tried putting an autoexec.cfg into the arena folder and it still does the > same thing > > thanks > >

Thanks but I have already tried all of that and it still happens.. Any ideaS? Is there a way to load the cfg while q3a boots with a parameter after the game path or anything? Make sure you change the settings in baseq3 q3config.cfg and in the mod folders q3config.cfg files. Not sure why this works, but it worked for me once. Rob

I worked out what I had to do.. I had to make all the changes I wanted and then make the autoexec and q3config in the arena and baseq3 folders read only. Problem doesn't happen anymore "Robert" <no.email@noemail.rr.com> wrote in message news:GSV9e.12771$_t3.12545@tornado.tampabay.rr.com... > > "method" <pmitsaki@nospam.bigpond.net.au> wrote in message > news:ZO19e.16366$5F3.12308@news-server.bigpond.net.au... > > any way to fix this? > > I tried putting an autoexec.cfg into the arena folder and it still does > > the > > same thing > > > > thanks > > I'm guessing this is when you are starting up a mod or you have other mods > with different q3config.cfg files. > > Make sure you change the settings in baseq3 q3config.cfg and in the mod > folders q3config.cfg files. > > Not sure why this works, but it worked for me once. > > Rob > >

Are you starting Rocket Arena from the Q3A mods menu, this fucks things up all the time. Don't do it, it specifically says, don't do it in the RA3 readme. I haven't played RA3 in 4 years and I remember as much. -- People of the United States! We are Unitarian Jihad! We can strike without warning. Railgun. Make sure your sensitivity isn't too high (/sensitivity in console). Set it so that a 180 degree turn takes maybe 2/3 or all of the width of your mouse mat to do. Lower sensitivity makes it easier to aim fast. Getting a larger mousemat helps. And make sure mouse acceleration is off, since this is hard to use (/cl_mouseaccel 0). If you don'd know how to do this, you can read this: http://www.planetquake.com/quake3/q3aguide/console.shtml It's good to practice your railgun skills by playing on an instaunlagged server, map q3dm17. Or just try using only railgun in rocket arena for a while. If you meet a superior player, ask him for some tips. Use The All-Seeing Eye to find Instaunlagged servers. You can use if forever without paying. http://gamesdomain.yahoo.com/ase/register Rocket jumps. They are quite easy. Just face the opposite direction of where you're going, jump backwards, then immediatly fire a rocket into the ground. The hard part is doing this without stopping first, ie. running forward, then turning and doing a rocket jump with the exact right direction and angle of the rocket. You will always take some damage when you rocket jump. There are some demos on the net you can watch. Use google. And you need to practice this when you're alone on the server. Weapon switching. I don't think RA3 allows you to change the weapon switching speed, so it's probably you imagination. But using the mouse wheel to cycle the weapon list isn't the best way to switch weapons. Use the control settings page to bind the weapons to keys around your movement keys. If you use WASD like me, you can do this this: rocket=e, plasma=q, bfg=f, railgun=r, lightning=c, grenades=x, teleport=z. 1-3 default. Even better, you can put the weapons you use the most on the mouse, so you don't have to let go of any of the movement keys to switch weapons. Right mouse button for one weapon, mousewheel up and down for two more, instead of cycling. And if you use ctrl for crouching and alt for walking, you can use shift with your pinky for a fourth weapon. You usually don't need a key for zooming in rocket arena, not walking either. There's a lot more to know about playing Q3, but this is really the essential stuff. Remember to ask for comments on your playing when you meet somone who kicks your ass. Many players are very keen on helping when you're alone with them on a server. And don't stand still, you have to learn to aim while running and jumping. Hope this helps. I was supposed to be cleaning the floor and bathrooms now, but I ended up writing this stuff instead :)
