I've never seen a game accelerated in a window before and just assumed it
was impossible until Q3A came along. Is this the only game that does this?

A lot of games can do this. But because of the pass trough stuff on the
voodoo cards this it not possible. It can be done with the voodoo rush and
banshee though because they are 2d-3d cards.

It can be done using WinGlide, and there was a demonstration of it being done
on the BeOS with Quake2. Problem is, it runs very slow.
