Quake 3 IHV: How to play against some bots!

Ok kiddies, if you have the IHV you know there's not much to do but
run around
and fire off a few shells...and maybe practice some rocket jumps.
Here's
something that will make the IHV a *little* more interesting, but not
much.
There is a file in the maps directory called tim_dm1.bsp. Rename (or
copy) that
file to tim1.bsp. Now go into the game and select Single Player game
and pick
Arena1 for the level to play. It will be the same little level, but now
a bot
will randomly spawn somewhere in that funky green mist!
The bots don't attack, in fact they just run in one direction toward
the
wall...BUT it's a chance to test out weapons and quad strength as well
as get a
look at the Q3 player bodies and movements.

My first impression: the game feels a lot like Q1 in the way the
corridors
and spaces seem to enclose when things get tight...the walls feel very
much
up/down in the test, though there is a ton of curvature, somehow it
didn't open
up spaces as much as Quake 2's angular maps did for me. Also, the bot
players'
bodies look tall and boxy like original Quake rather than the Q2 feel.
I admit
I haven't played Q1 very much so I'm biased against it...But I agree
with Thresh
that the railgun is way too fast in this implementation. In the IHV the
railgun
just rapid fires like there's no tomorrow.

If id is reading this: Fix the rail and plasma fire sequencing. It
might
just need getting used to, but I did not like the way the weapon made a
noise, a
flash, and THEN fired...this makes aiming annoyingly lagged even if
there is no
net lag. Also, I put this info up on the web for the benefit of the
3l1t3
quakers everywhere. I *DO NOT* promote piracy of id software, and I
feel the
spread of the IHV won't harm id at all...if a gamer is sick enough to
download
the IHV test, he WILL buy the game no matter what! ;)

Thanks for the great work-in-progress, id!
