Has there already been someone who has made quake3 levels? I remember that 24 hours after the release of quake2 there were already dozens of levels (made with ms-dos edit). thanx BlackShift

In article <7bf033$jpg$1...@info.service.rug.nl>, hu...@comports.com says... > Has there already been someone who has made quake3 levels? > I remember that 24 hours after the release of quake2 there were already > dozens of levels (made with ms-dos edit). Made with EDIT.COM ?!! Wow, just imagine what you could do with NOTEPAD.EXE, heh. The leaked Q3A comes with just 2 versions (fog / no fog) of one DM map (DM1 as well as the KM_PORTAL and other 2 test maps). I don't think you are going to be seeing any more for quite a while yet - and none at all made with a text editor :)

The people who make those level editors first have to find out the structure of the levels, and they will not have other leveleditors to get that from, so they have to figure it out some other ways. There are already disassembled (or deC++ed) source code of that demo on the web, or some good programmer can do that himself, and from there make up how the levels are organised. I think it will be easier to use some hexeditor, but those txt-files that came with the maps said they were made with edit.com, and they were there 24 hours after the release. I also doubt wether there will be much difference between the different level structure of q2 and q3, of course there are round shapes and al that stuff, but the main things are still vertexes and polygons. So if somebody can figure out how to make q1 and q2 levels by scratch without an leveleditor, they can also do that with q3. (I also programmed my own commader keen levels without editor, but I'm a realy bad programmer so I can never make q3 levels that way.) btw I think notepad realy sucks for this kind of things, for most characters it displays a black square, so it is realy hard to figure out what is what >> Has there already been someone who has made quake3 levels? >> I remember that 24 hours after the release of quake2 there were already >> dozens of levels (made with ms-dos edit). > > >Made with EDIT.COM ?!! >Wow, just imagine what you could do with NOTEPAD.EXE, heh. > >The leaked Q3A comes with just 2 versions (fog / no fog) of one DM map >(DM1 as well as the KM_PORTAL and other 2 test maps).
