Doesn't overclocking a 266Mhz Celeron to 450Mhz, damage it slightly and give you weird illegal operation errors, grrrr. If something does go badly wrong your not going to get your money back unless you lie, are you. Is it really worth overclocking when you are probably making your warrantly void. Is it worth getting a few extra, unnoticeable fps, at the risk of screwing your whole system. I was under the impression that there wasn't any software that made any real use of a 450 processor. -- Go to my website, It's cool www.hell81.freeserve.co.uk

I know that overclocking can cause those problems, though it might not. Think about it, if you drive your brand new camaro at 100mph every time you drive it, it will be breaking down within a few years. But if you always run it at a leasurely 35mph, it will last much longer. I agree with you about the 450mhz applications. No games are made for it I think, they want as many people to spend their money on it as they can. You could get a killer game of unreal though! Its like how most games are still being based on teh voodoo2 chipset though more advanced technologies are available. Well if it burnt out and someone took it back and said "I overclocked this and it doesn't work anymore", then they'd pretty much deserve all they get for being so stupid. > Is it really worth overclocking when you are > probably making your warrantly void. SHOP: Have you overclocked this ? CUSTOMER: No If you can prove a chip has been overclocked then you a better man than anyone else. > Is it worth getting a few extra, > unnoticeable fps, at the risk of screwing your whole system. You under the wrong impression then :) With a Celeron266 running at 400MHz, I haven't come across a game that I cannot run at 1024x768 (even Unreal), but it struggles at the default speed. If you just want to play in 640x480 all the time, then fair enough, that's your choice. Oh, and I paid 60 for it, that's more than just a few quid saving over the 'real' chips. If it burns out, so what, I can buy about 4-6 before it cost's as much as a high end P2...

It could shorten the life of the chip but maybe not. A Celeron 300a costs less than $100 and it runs as fast as a p2 450 which is about $500. I got one and I'd reccomend it. Check out this page http://home.hawaii.rr.com/hawaiifrank/faq.html It answers most questions.
