The situation is even more egregious in my case, since for getting stuff
done, I run Linux and Solaris at home. I have a dedicated Windows
machine for playing games, so buying an Xbox would be a travesty -- I
already _have_ a machine with a PC architecture for playing games, and
_it's_ upgradable (unlikely the Xbox). As it stands right now, a
Pentium IV with a GeForce 4 would blow an Xbox away.
That being said, there really are games for console systems that either
don't get made for PC (or Xbox!) -- like the Wipeout series -- or games
that require controllers that aren't available for the PC (or Xbox!) --
like the GunCon2. I recently got a PS2 for Wipeout Fusion and Time
Crisis II -- I wanted both of these games, and they simply were not
available (and never will be) for the PC or Xbox.
Microsoft is trying to bribe game developers into making Xbox releases
first, but so far it isn't having much impact; Xbox is way behind in the
console game wars and may never catch up. If you're a PC gamer and
really want to get a console, get it for the types of games you wouldn't
be able to play on your PC, and unless you're 12 (so you wouldn't want a
GameCube), the PS2 is the obvious choice.
