Quake disconnects DSL!

Please Help.
I have a strange problem. When I play Quake 3 MP, my DSL will
disconnect within just a few minutes of connecting to multiplayer, (I
will lag for about 15-20 seconds before my DSL reconnects and I am able
to play the game again, without reconnecting) and then it will happen
again a few minutes later. As soon as I lag, I will look over and see
my DSL light on the modem flashing red, and then eventually it will
turn green again and I get the game back.

I am connected through a D-Link DI-524 router/AP, to a speedstream 4100
DSL modem. Both have the latest firmware. I have tried two different
DSL modems, same problem.

- This also happens on Return to castle wolfenstein (I have not tested
any other games, that is really all I have installed).
- It happens on any public quake server.
- It happens whether I use my gigabit ethernet, OR wireless connection.
- It happens with PB enabled AND disabled.

- It does NOT happen on a LAN server.
- It does NOT happen on my laptop within the same internal network.

I have reinstalled SP2 for XP, along with any and all windows updates.
I have not installed any new software to speak of. I have deleted my
q3config.cfg file and started fresh. I have reinstalled quake fresh.
I have run TCPOptimizer to be sure my network/MTU settings are correct
(and conservative).

>>From the tests, it would appear to be a system problem, not router, not
game. I am running a P4 2.6GHz, 1GB RAM, RAID 0 ATA 7200RPM, Nvidia
5700 w/256MB. I have run tests for spyware and I have uninstalled any
unused programs.

Read: A few weeks ago, I upgraded my DSL from 3Mb/384Kb to 6Mb/768Kb.
I did play a time or two after I requested the upgrade. I was out for
a few weeks in Japan, and when I came back, I was getting this problem
during gameplay. I feel like I've tried everything. My next step is
to run the DSL modem directly to my desktop using the PPoE client for
XP.

Any ideas? I'm willing to try anything, but I'm not ready to reinstall
XP - I have way to many programs installed/configured on this desktop!
