_XIII_ was originally a comic book, which inspired the game.  So the 
miniseries was based on the comic book, not on the game.

The miniseries took liberties with the story and tweaked it to try to 
make it more contemporary (which is almost always a bad sign), as the 
original comic book was set during the Cold War.  Details of the plot 
and the behavior of characters was changed for no apparent reason. 
Plus, about halfway through the first part, XIII is having a 
hallucination and hears someone talking -- if you'd been paying any 
attention at all you could tell who the voice is (since you've already 
heard it earlier in the episode) and it basically gives away who Number 
I is.  (Perhaps it was only obvious to me since I already knew, being 
familiar with the comic book and game, but I still think it was way too 
blatant a hint.)

Overall I'd have to say it was quite disappointing.  It did inspired me 
to replay the game, though.

I don't think there was ever a Usenet forum for _XIII_; I believe there 
were some official game online forums where most of the discussion took 
place.
