Quake 3 1.32 point release problems, with Ti 4600 + Voodoo2

Don't know if anyone can help, but I was running Q3 1.31 perfectly, no
problems, no crashes or any issues (usually at 1024x768@32 with 4x
FSAA). I decided to download 1.32, and now I can't change resolution
! If I attempt to change any resolution settings, it attempts to use
the Voodoo2 card, no matter what I do :( This did NOT happen with any
previous version.

Note that I have a GF4 Ti 4600 with driver 31.80.
This only starts happening when I use 1.32. When I reinstall and go
back to 1.31, the game works perfectly again, and I can change
resolutions left and right, without it deciding "hey, your Voodoo2 is
better than your Ti 4600!".

Also, I CAN choose "use defaults", and it goes back to 640x480, using
the GF4 card. But if I attempt to do ANYTHING, like change texture
depth, detail, and so on, it immediatley switches to the Voodoo2.
If I try to go above 1024x768, I get a "Q_strncoyz NULL src" error in
the console (since the voodoo2 can't display resolutions higher than
1024x768). But this is rather stupid....it shouldn't be using the V2
if I select "default opengl".

The "Fix" is to rename the 3dfxvgl.dll file to stop it from detecting
the voodoo2. Then it loads NVopengl.dll. But why does it attempt to
use the Voodoo2 even when you have selected "default opengl"? Yes,
that's right....if I tell it to use the default opengl (which of
course, is NVdd32.dll), it uses the voodoo2 anyway ! It ONLY refuses
to use the V2, and uses the nvidia card, if it can't find 3dfxvgl.dll

Note: I did install direct X 9 a week ago, but I don't know if that is
related to this problem. Though, I could SWEAR I ran 1.32 without
this problem a few weeks ago...

Somethiing is rather broke, here.
Is there a config setting to prevent the game from using the V2 even
when I tell it to use the TI 4600? I'd prefer not always renaming
stuff, since I don't have to worry about brightness/gamma problems
with the V2 in Quake 1 /Q2....

I think this is a priority bug. In the older patches, it would only
attempt to use the voodoo2 *if* the primary display adapter didn't
support opengl. But now, with 1.32, it seems to be using the primary
display adapter _only_ if the voodoo2 ogl doesn't exist :P
lol........

No way to fix this, then?

BTW, win98SE, 256 MB, GF4 Ti 4600, driver 31.80, and two Voodoo2's.
==============================================

Three rings for the Elven kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarven lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.
