One Follow-up Thought.....

We all pay a price for the things we have. Living within a society,
means we give up the right to act anyway we want to, and live by that
society's laws. Gun ownership means being responsible for that
firearm.

My point: If everyone were given a firearm, sure there would be an
increase in "accidental" deaths, and the "criminals" would probably
run wild for a year or two, until they all got shot dead in the
street.

Would society accept these "losses" just as society accepts losses
from other types of dangerous, but condoned, behavior?? Example,
driving an automobile on a highway at 70 MPH is very dangerous when
you have an unexperienced 17 year old behind the wheel. Society pays
for this trade-off by demanding higher Insurance Premiums. The same
can be said for airplanes. Sure you're going to have a few accidents.
Sure you're going to have a few hundred deaths per year, but that's
the price we pay for the convinence of going from New York to San
Diego in less than 6 hours.

Will socity accept a "certain number" of "accidents" for the right to
bare arms?? Probably not. Yet it's an intresting arguement from a
philosophical point of view..
