Well, ditching the Virge is a good start. Awful card. But if you just want
games, especially Q2, keep the Virge and buy a 3DFX add-on. The Orchid
Righteous 3D and Diamond Stealth Monster 3D are the too best value. I'd
avoid the Voodoo Rush chipset, get the older Voodoo Graphics chipset (both
are made by 3DFX btw). Also, don't get any other 3D card, like the Verite
cjipset or VideoLogic. Neither are as good as the 3DFX (this is a FACT, no
matter what some say....though it is close), but the major difference will
be in the support. EVERY D3D enhanced game will work with either card, but
there are more 3DFX enhanced, and 3DFX specific, games in development. I'd
give the split 80%-20%, it really is that much.

However, if you're in the market for a general card, I'd recommend the
Matrox Mystique 220. It's great at both 3D and 2D, good general card (and
Matrox seem to put the most behind their drivers). Personally, I'm running
a Matrox Millenium 2 with a Righteous 3D. That way I get the best of both
2D and 3D (btw, the Millenium has very little D3D support, so if you want
games, I wouldn't recommend this card by itself - but for Windows it's
excellent).

Why do I always write such long replys?

Cheers

Matt
