Does anyone have any idea what the minimum system requirements for Quake II
will be.

Min. requirement is a P100 16Mb. It will support hardware GL
acceleration, ie cards such as Righteous 3D, Monster 3D - specifically,
the 3DFX chipset, and also Verite, as in the Mystique. Intel processors,
like Quake, will be faster due to better FPU performance. Quake 2 is not
optimised for MMX.

I think it'll be a P90, 32 mb, cdrom, soundcard (SB), approx 100 mb hd
(not sure, get PCGAMER-usa, it's in there)

Thanx fellow fraggers, I guess I'll be able to barely play, with my P100/32
ram. Crap it was only 2 years ago when I payed a Grand just for the chip
and motherboard. I need to win the lottery!

Makes me wonder if my system will be up to the task.
Using a AMD586x133 overclocked to 160 here with 40meg Ram.
Overclocking to 160 brought it up from a P75 to P90 performance.

The Verite chipset is not on the Mystique.

I think Intel/Cirix/AMD/others should just stop making chips so games can
get good on where they are... I predict once 50% or more of the market
realizes Intel's "advances" are only for its own coporate money grabbing
tactics, they'll turn away, possibly finally making the major chip makers
get a "universally upgradable" platform off the ground, i.e. Panda Project
for the mainstream....

Nice trying to put the brakes on the wheels of capitalism there. Game
developers constantly have to push the envelope of machine capacity so
that they don't look like "last year's games" ... Besides, game
development cycles are about to be crushed by the silicon development
cycle.
All that cheap RAM you have is a by-product of the advances made between
the time you buy your computer and when you upgrade it. Games are
taking a year or two to make now. Moore's Law dictated that computers
get twice as big, twice as fast (and cheaper) in 18 months. {Make that 9
months now, since they figured out how to get two bits on one
transistor...} So, if a certain game manufacturer developed for today's
machine, they wouldn't have written Quake, it would have been Doom with
16-bit color.
Pentiums do not have the market penetration that you might think. (~10%
last time I checked) All the flashy PII commercials are because they are
trying to _get_ people to the pentium level in the first place...

Yeah, but _everybody_ knows that Bill Gates is out to make money, and
that knowledge hasn't changed the marketplace. He's the richest MF in
the computer biz right now _because_ he's a smart businessman and knows
how to rake it in. How can you blame Intel for trying to control the
market?

Business does what is good for business, plain and simple.

Look, I don't mean to be offensive, but unless you KNOW FOR CERTAIN,
please don't post what you THINK IT MIGHT BE. That really doesn't help
anyone.

Well, I think its a TRS-80 MC-10 w/ the 16K memory expansion. See?
Didn't really do anyone any good to list what I THOUGHT the specs were.

Hmm.. Well, *I think* you're a loud mouthed jerk who probably masturbates
entirely too frequently.

Akuma was nice enough to try to answer a question.. perhaps he added the
'i think' in there simply because he wasn't 100% positive and wanted to
communicate that.. Maybe he was 100% positive but just uses 'I think' in
his style of communication..

He answered the question, which is more than I can say for your bratty
ass. And as far as I know his answer is correct.

Yeah, FaNaTiCal monkey-slapper perhaps.

In the October 97 issue of "PC GAMER", it was reported " According to
id that QUAKE II's base machine will be a 90 Mhz Pentium with 16
Megabytes of RAM. Th covererage on "QUAKE II" in this month's "PC
GAMER" is simply outstanding. The interviews with id's personel were
well done. The screenshots were simply outstanding!!! I can't wait. I
better save up for my 3D card when this game comes popping into my hard
drive.

says who? Were not going on smooth play requrements but simply
requrements to get the game to play. I HIGHLY doubt a p166 is the req
w/o a 3dfx card. a p 120 maybe but come on..
