The full Quake(I/II/III)

I want to profile one of Quake(any version) or Doom(any version). I
browsed the net
and learnt that atleast till 2002, the textures, maps and other data
for Quake2
were not available for download(but the source code was).

Is it still the case nowadays? Are there any production-strength 3D
games
that are GPLed so that the full game(maybe with lesser levels) can be
built
as an executable? For the record, I use Visual Studio as my development
environment.

Thanks.

Why don't you just buy the game for the $2 it's worth nowadays? Or, you
can go the less legal but more easy route.

I intend to instrument the game so that I can profile it extensively.
