I've tried this while playing single player and it doesn't stick.  I think
you'll have to restart from the beginning, and just in case, might as well
put it on hard this time.  ;-)

now heard of Doom3 - perhaps that's gonna be my new game :-)
Which means, that I have to go thru the rest of the game on "easy",

I agree. The fun is in figuring out how to deal with situations.
Covering and working with your team members is the whole point of
co-op. In Q3 you just run like hell and blast anything that moves.
Nobody is going to cover your ass or let you take a pee break.

Besides, it goes against my grain to kill other humans. It's the
stinking, mud sucking Stogg who deserve our fire. The dirty little
evil off-planet stinking gabble gabble.

Oh. I got carried away. I'm back now. Hope nobody got hurt ;-)

Who said anything about Quake 3? I said D3. D3 = Doom3.
