timedemo slow on modern hardware

Hello,
I'm getting back into Q2 and I've got it all working but I'm getting
rather low results from a simple "demomap1" timedemo. At 1024*768 I get 97
FPS; on a XP2600+ with a Radeon 9800PRO :-\
1600*1200 gets about 55 FPS.

Q3 reports over double that on a "four" timedemo; it's not a vsync or
cl_maxfps issue but I can't think of anything else to try.. Any ideas?

TIA

Try checking your monitor refresh rate for the resolution you are
playing the game in. I have to set mine for each resolution I play in.

hmmm, who are you replying to? I see your answer, but not the original
post.
