OT: cpu question

I purchased a new cpu (pentium4 2.8 ghz)
but I made the stupid mistake of not
noticing that it was a p4 "prescott" cpu
when my motherboard only accepts a P4
"northwood" cpu. Before I noticed this
I put the cpu in the board and of course
it did not work. Is this cpu now damaged
beyond usefulness?

It is probably ok, but it is hard to say. The only real difference is that
the prescott runs on .2v less than the northwood, no biggy. What type of
motherboard do you have? Most motherboards that support 800mhz fsb p4's
support prescotts also.
